Non-Executive Director

Drive your organization’s growth with independent oversight and a sustainability-focused perspective. Paul Toyne brings proven boardroom experience, guiding companies towards responsible leadership and enhanced stakeholder trust across diverse industries.

Non-executive director roles

Paul is recognised for independent judgement, evidence-based decision-making, and the ability to chair complex, multi-stakeholder groups with transparency and authority.

He has a proven track record of holding organisations to account on environmental performance, risk, compliance, community impact and reporting — while maintaining constructive relationships with operators, regulators and other stakeholders.

Paul has been a board Member/Director/Trustee of the following organisations:

Appointed by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson and served two terms of Sadiq Khan. Renamed in 2023 London Climate and Sustainability Commission.

  • Member of its executive team
  • Chair of LSDC’s Quality of Life Indicators Group overseeing a series of publication documenting London’s performance
  • Chair of London’s reporting against UN SDGs (the most comprehensive city assessment and resulted in the GLA’s Health and Wellness Indicators)
  • Member of Greater London Authority’s Carbon Measurement Steering Group that created the award winning PAS 2070
  • Chair of London’s ‘Access to Nature for children’ Steering Group.

BAG is the trade association representing the international and domestic aviation supply chain. As Chair of its Environmental Working Group Paul helped revitalise the group with a strong programme of events on climate resilience, PAS 2080 and Airport Carbon Accreditation.

Testimonial: Paul made a massive contribution to the Board, and his leadership of the Environment Working Group has been insightful and helped BAG to understand the sustainability challenges in aviation and what lies ahead. Paul always looked to ensure that we brought a balanced approach to how BAG operates and helped us see things from different perspectives, which has been invaluable. Paul’s input into developing our strategic relationships and understanding the needs of our members, with events on PAS 2080 and climate resilience, has helped us improve our governance, support our existing members and grow our membership.  (Tim Walder, Chair of the British Aviation Group)

Paul was a trustee and held strategic relationships with the charities partners – Coram, The Prince’s Trust, Action for Children, and London Youth Games. Provided oversight and scrutiny of the donations and outcomes.

In addition, Paul managed the relationship with the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. As part of their training and career development apprentices were encouraged to complete the gold scheme.

Redmond Group a family run mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) business working for main contractors in the London area on major projects such as the Imperial College White City development.

Testimonial: During Paul’s time as Non-executive Director at Redmond Group Limited, Paul made a genuinely valuable contribution to our business. As a family-run MEP contractor — having independent scrutiny at board level was important to us. Paul brought exactly that: thoughtful, objective governance on our ESG performance that helped raise our standards and hold us accountable.
Beyond governance, Paul worked closely with myself (MD) and the Health, Safety and Environment Director to drive operational excellence across the group. His input on areas such as procurement policy and site waste management and the environmental as well as social and community engagement was both practical and impactful — something that local and central government bought into, the kind of contribution that makes a real difference on complex, high-value projects.

We would have no hesitation in recommending Paul to any organisation looking for an experienced and engaged non-executive director. (Stephen Redmond, Managing Director)

A not-for-profit company, established by Lendlease, to deliver employer-led training for the Bovis Lendlease (main contracting division of Lendlease) supply chain creating employment opportunities for the social disadvantaged.

Whilst at WWF-UK Paul became a non-executive director (1998-2003) to help the founders grow the corporate governance and CSR consultancy. He later became an executive director winning and delivering projects, before returning to a non-executive role in 2007, resigning in 2011.
