Regenerative design approach to place making and property

In Iasia, Romania Paul provided a keynote lecture to investors in the property sector. The conference explored opportunities in the Eastgate region and through into Moldova and Ukraine. Paul’s focus was on regenerative design in place-making and how if implemented correctly benefits this approach gives.

Five key takeaways from my keynote:

  • The built environment has an enormous footprint, accounting for over 37% of global CO2 emmissions, more when you include whole-life carbon and of course it is resource wasteful
  • Sustainability needs to move from “less bad” to “more good”, creating buildings that actively benefit people and the planet
  • Promises are giving way to proven performance, with credible data and measurable outcomes becoming increasingly important
  • Regenerative design can create and protect financial value through lower costs, stronger performance, resiliance and reduced risk
  • Value goes beyond financial returns, encompassing social, human and nature-related outcomes that can strengthen long-term asset quality
