Paul has experience in the design and construction of aviation terminals working on airport projects whilst with Balfour Beatty (Heathrow’s Queen Elizabeth terminal), and with Grimshaw on several designs for example Athens Airport terminal expansion, Basel-Mulhouse redesign and Heathrow Airport expansion.

Paul has also produced sustainability visions and strategies for Luton Rising (owners of Luton Airport), Teeside International Airport and Alat International airport.

Writing in Grimshaw’s website journal Sustainable Skies | Journal | GRIMSHAW Paul talks about the environmental impacts of aviation where contrails and direct carbon emissions from aircraft fuel are rising. Whilst the sector explores sustainable aviation fuels, hydrogen and electrification, the reality is that dramatic reductions from flying are not going to come in the immediate future.

It is essential therefore that airport owners address all aspects of landside sustainability, considering a holistic approach to an airport’s operation.

Paul goes on to describe the characteristics of what a sustainable airport of the future might look like.
