Creating public awareness to change public procurement policy on timber: newspaper reaction


Newspaper reaction to the WWF-UK report on the impact of G8’s public procurement of unsustainable timber (you can see the report as a post in the same section). Paul Toyne directed the WWF-UK Forest Programme and led the campaign to reduce the importation of illegal timber. It did have some success….

The UK government supported the development of the UK Woodland Assurance Scheme, of which FSC and other schemes qualify, and put in place procurement criteria for only timber sourced from sustainably-manged forests to be bought.
