First of several articles (both in the UK and Norway) that looked at the illegal mining operations in Ecuador by British and Norwegian companies. This was part of the campaign that included a film that was shown on cable TV. The campaign culminated in the joint venture recognising that it was operating illegally inside the Podocarpus National Park in southern Ecuador and withdrawing so protecting a vital watershed for local communities and a treasure trove of biodiversity.
