New species of butterfly discovered: Splendeuptychia toynei

This paper by Willmott and Hall, two butterfly experts in the USA, describes one of the new species to science we found from our butterfly survey of Podocarpus National Park. It is called Splendeuptychia toynei – the clue is in the name! Yes it was a great honour for Paul to have a butterfly named after him.

Whilst at WWF, Paul auctioned off the naming of another new butterfly we discovered to raise conservation funds. Isobel Talks won the naming right and I helped her to go to Ecuador to find her butterfly in the wild!   You can find the video link to the news story here ADD LINK
